Worship is central to the life of the Christian and so, here at Ladue Chapel, the written word of God and the spoken word of God are central to our worship services. The reading of scripture and the presentation of the spoken word are part of a vital and dynamic worship service. Sacred music, both new and ancient, helps us to lift up our voices in praise to Jesus Christ. Prayers put us in touch with the God who hears and cares. Children gather for Children’s Time with one of the pastors on the steps of the chancel to hear God’s word for them. All that we do focuses on giving praise and thanksgiving to God, going forth in living lives dedicated to Christ.

Sunday Worship Services are at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. During the summer months, services are held at 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
A Service of Healing and Wholeness is celebrated at 6:00 p.m. in Woods Chapel on the first Tuesday of each month, September through June. This service focuses on prayer both in word and action. We sing together, remain silent together, celebrate the Lord’s Supper together and experience God’s healing presence and touch in our lives through the laying on of hands and anointing with oil.
Worship in the Taizé style is conducted in the Sanctuary Chancel on the fourth Sunday of each month at 6:30 p.m., September through June. The service is approximately one hour in length. This style of worship focuses predominantly on prayer, meditation, silence and singing. It provides a different kind of opportunity for nurturing your spiritual grown in addition to other worship services at Ladue Chapel. Guests are especially welcome! Enjoy spending quiet time with members of our congregation in prayer and praise of God. Come as you are, whether you are dressed for relaxation or getting ready for a formal evening. But come with your heart ready to give thanks and praise to God from whom all blessings flow. Children is provided. For more information about the Taizé community, please visit their website at www.taize.fr/en.
All funerals or memorial services conducted at Ladue Chapel are under the direction of one of the pastors. Funeral hostesses assist with preparation for the service and with the receiving line or reception following the service.
Weddings are held in the Sanctuary, which seats 500 guests, or in Woods Chapel, which will accommodate up to 50 guests. All weddings conducted at Ladue Chapel are under the direction of our pastoral staff. If a pastor other than a member of the Ladue Chapel pastoral staff is to participate in the wedding service, arrangements need to be made with the officiating pastor who will extend an official invitation from Session to the guest minister.
Ladue Chapel Wedding Hostesses assist the pastor in directing the service and are particularly knowledgeable in wedding etiquette, as well as in the special regulations governing the use of Ladue Chapel.
Lectors: To share from the Word of God in a service of worship is an exciting privilege and opportunity afforded to those lay persons who make a two-year commitment to serve as a Lector at Sunday morning worship. Lectors meet monthly with the Pastor for training and study of the scriptures.
Ushers are responsible for assisting the ministers of the church in conducting the worship services, as well as providing a general atmosphere of hospitality and order so that all who attend feel welcome and comfortable. The ushers also participate in Lee Institute and other projects in support of the church, including sponsoring the Rally Day picnic in September, marking the beginning of our program year. Each ushering team’s activities are directed by a Team Leader and an Assistant Team Leader.
Host Officers (Deacons and Elders) are available in the Gathering Place after worship services to answer questions and to give directions to church facilities.
Flowers for the sanctuary on Sunday mornings may be given in memory or honor of loved ones or to the glory of God. Donations may also be made for plants to decorate the Church at Christmas and Easter.
A Yellow or Pink Rose on the Communion Table during Sunday worship services is one way we celebrate the birth of our children and grandchildren. After worship, the rose may be taken home for the family to enjoy.
A White Rose on the Communion Table during Sunday worship honors the memory of a church member who has entered the Church Triumphant. The family may take the rose home following worship.
Special candlelight communion services are held on Christmas Eve and on Maundy Thursday of Holy Week.
Fellowship: An opportunity for Christian fellowship follows each Sunday worship service and is held in the Gathering Place, a large open room which stands at the crossroads of all the various wings of our building complex. Members may arrange to donate cookies for Sunday morning Fellowship Time by scheduling with the Church Office.
Youth participate in worship as acolytes, lectors, ushers, soloists, members of singing and ringing choirs, in drama vignettes and as worshipers. Youth Sundays are special services held twice each year allowing Junior and Senior High youth to share, express, and explore their faith with one another and with the congregation.
The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, normally celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, is open to all who have made confession of their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and baptized children of this faith community. Candlelight Communion services are held on Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday.
Baptism is always a high and holy moment in the life of our congregation. We rejoice at God’s gift and promise of new life and we also recommit ourselves to fulfillment of our own vows of faith.
