Gateway "I Have a Dream" Foundation

The "I Have A Dream"® Foundation is a national organization founded in New York by Eugene Lang and is dedicated to providing the promise of a college or trade school education to inner city youth.

Gateway "I Have a Dream"®  Foundation of St. Louis (GIHAD), established in 1994 and significantly funded by Ladue Chapel, is the current project in St. Louis.  Although it is a separate 501(c)(3) corporation with its own board of directors and a broad base of community support, GIHAD is still close to the heart of this congregation.  Ladue Chapel members serve as tutors, volunteers and mentors. The ongoing Mission budget of Ladue Chapel contributes to the operating expenses.

This program seeks to assist at-risk youth to remain in school, graduate, and continue on into secondary education.   It seeks to break the cycle of despair, prevalent in the inner city, by helping these young people dream of what yet may come.

GIHAD offers an after school homework clinic four days a week that provides tutoring, guidance, and computer skills.   Through generous gifts, Dreamers use state of the art computer labs to learn computer skills and reinforce academic development.

Saturday Academies and a Summer Program expose the Dreamers to a wide variety of vocations, goals and opportunities.

GIHAD assures Dreamers that the last dollar in tuition will be available for continuing education at state colleges, universities or trade schools.   Sponsors, staff, mentors, tutors and volunteers seek ways to support them in the difficult quest to stay in school and graduate.
